To our Tikkun readers celebrating Christmas, we send best wishes for a joyous and meaningful Christmas. For those who do not have plans for Dec. 25th, we invite you to join us for Shabbat celebration and Torah Study (to join, see information below). Many of us at Tikkun consider Jesus a great Jewish prophet. Like all our prophets both ancient and current, there is a lot to learn from them and there are, as well, teachings that don't speak to us. The four Gospels vary in important ways, some of which captured his message of love and nonviolence, others that teach, or were used for centuries to promote, hatred of Jews. We have similar kinds of problems with parts of our Hebrew Bible even though we also find much of it deeply inspiring. And many who celebrate Christmas are actually celebrating the season, the return of the sun, or just the joy of being together with friends and family during a time when most workplaces give some time off from work. We hope you enjoy the holiday. For those who do not have plans for December 25th, Beyt Tikkun will be holding a celebration of the universe at 9:30 am Pacific Time (PT) and a participatory study of this week's Torah portion with Rabbi Michael Lerner and Cat Zavis from 10:30-12:00 pm PT. This reading recounts the enslavement of the Jews in Egypt for several hundred years (some 3400 years ago) and then Moses' first encounter with God/Yud Hey Vav Hey/the Transformative Power of the Universe– and why Moses at first resisted the task of challenging Pharaoh. It's free and only on Zoom. If you have not joined us previously or need the Zoom link again, please click here (http://www.beyttikkun.org/article.php/torahstudysign) to register. Blessings to all, Rabbi Michael Lerner & Cat Zavis |
